SERIES POST #1: Of Looming Shadows

After a shameful drought of posts and an extremely overdue premiere of my 2009 Thailand Series, here it is. My FIRST group of shots. Some of these were done on my old and small point shoot. So the quality might be ‘eh’ and have some grain. But I posted anyway!

One of MANY buildings at The Grand Palace

Sunset at Temple Of The Dawn

3 Chedis

Windows of my ancestor’s tomb/shrine

What do you think this is?

The Bunnag Family Temple (Wat Prayurawong), if you go around the base of that chedi you an find a lot of my ancestors’ tombs and plaques. Shot at night from river (on boat).

Buddha and a little friendly visitor.

Sunset shot from ONE of Thailands Ancient capital cities. This is at the Ayutthaya Ruins. If I’m correct in my history, these ruins date back around the 1400’s. If you ever go, you MUST go both during the day as well as at night –the ruins are lit up at night and it offers a completely different experience.

Night and Day

Author: ProductSuperiorJohn

Four photos of midtown Manhattan shot from the same balcony at different times: two photos during the day in a snowstorm, two photos about fifteen minutes after sunset.

I might add that at both times it was damn cold. The evening I took the night shots it was around fifteen degrees with at least a thirty mile an hour wind. Couple that with being on a forty fifth floor balcony in the tallest building in the near vicinity and you are guaranteed to be windburned and have snot frozen all over your face. Ah…good times!

All were shot hand held on my D300 with the 16-85 VR DX. I braced myself against the walls/ railings to steady the night shots.

Storm Jet

Author: MGKabel

This photo was taken after a storm passed through our area. The sky was a very intense orange/red and the clouds appeared as little “ice cream scoops”, like something I’ve never seen. I climbed up the fire escape and captured this airliner departing from EWR just before the sky cleared.
